NEW Canine Influenza Vaccine is Here

Although we are probably one of the last animal hospitals/boarding facilities in the Chicago area to have the new H3N2 Canine Influenza outbreak, it finally came to visit our hospital. (Or so we believe, as tests are still pending).

Again, this new virus came from Asia and first hit the United States (Chicago) right before Easter. Currently we have reports that the virus is now suspected in 35 states over the past 8 to 9 months.

The new (2nd strain H3N2) Influenza vaccine is arriving at all veterinary hospitals in the United States this week, and we received our first shipment today.

We recommend all healthy dogs get vaccinated for Canine Influenza as soon as possible.

Please note that any dog being left at our facility for boarding, grooming, surgery, or testing will be required to be vaccinated for BOTH strains of Canine Influenza (H3N8 and the new H3N2).

The new vaccine is a series of 2 boosters. We are offering a package (two vaccinations, 2-3 weeks apart) for $50 for the series if you prepay for both at the first visit.

Please note: No dog will be allowed into our hospital until they have at least the first booster of each strain 1 week prior to admittance.

We are asking clients to call for an appointment to get the vaccine so we do not have an overcrowded parking lot and reception area.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 708-460-6000.
